IPL 2025: MS Dhoni had a disappointing outing with the bat on Tuesday (May 20) during the match between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
MS Dhoni Fails to Fire in Key Clash Against Rajasthan Royals
The CSK captain walked in to bat in the 14th over and had enough time to settle in and play one of his usual finishing knocks. But things didn’t go his way, as he managed to score only 16 runs from 17 balls.
His innings ended after a sharp catch by his former CSK teammate Tushar Deshpande. On the fifth ball of the final over, bowled by Akash Madhwal, Dhoni got a low full-toss outside the off stump, which led to his dismissal.

Dhoni struck the ball well and looked likely to hit a boundary. But Tushar Deshpande timed his jump perfectly and pulled off a sharp catch. The Royals’ pacer showed quick reflexes and did a great job of holding on to the ball.
Fans Rally Behind Dhoni After Flop Show
Meanwhile, social media has been buzzing with reactions to another flop performance of MS Dhoni. While there are many who are bashing the CSK captain left, right and center, his true lovers and fans came out in support of him even in this difficult time.

Why Meeting with MS Dhoni Felt special in Delhi?
It wasn’t expected that MS Dhoni would train on Monday in Delhi. But sometimes, the universe conspires just enough to give you what you quietly wish for.

CSK Fight Back to Post Competitive Total Despite Early Collapse
Talking about the match, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bounced back from a tough start to score a competitive 187/8 in their 20 overs. After being asked to bat first, they lost Devon Conway and Urvil Patel early, with just 12 runs on the board in under 2 overs.
Ayush Mhatre gave CSK some momentum with a quick 43 off 20 balls before getting out to Tushar Deshpande in the sixth over. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin were sent in higher up the order again, but both failed to make an impact.
CSK were in big trouble at 78/5 in the 8th over. That’s when Dewald Brevis stepped up with a quick and aggressive innings. He smashed 42 runs off just 24 balls before being dismissed by Akash Madhwal.
After Brevis got out, Shivam Dube and MS Dhoni added a valuable 43 runs for the seventh wicket. CSK ended their innings with 187 runs on the board. For the Rajasthan Royals, Yudhvir Singh and Akash Madhwal stood out with the ball, picking up 3 wickets each.
