At the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) held their nerve to earn their fourth win of IPL 2025, defending a total of 204/9 against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Tuesday. Despite a strong comeback from DC, Sunil Narine’s smart captaincy and bowling helped KKR seal the win.
KKR Clinches Narrow Win Over DC in IPL 2025
Batting first after being asked to bat, KKR started aggressively, scoring 79 runs in the powerplay – their second-best start this season. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Sunil Narine gave them a flying start with a quick 48-run stand in just 18 balls. After they got out, captain Ajinkya Rahane kept up the attacking approach.
Axar Patel took key wickets after Narine was dismissed, removing Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer quickly and causing a middle-order collapse for KKR. Rinku Singh and Angkrish Raghuvanshi tried to steady things with a 61-run stand, but KKR managed only 45 runs in the last five overs, ending at 204/9 on a good batting pitch.
In reply, Delhi Capitals lost early wickets, but Faf du Plessis played a strong knock, supported well by Axar Patel. They attacked the KKR spinners, with Axar hitting three sixes off Narine.
However, Narine turned the game in the 14th over, removing both Axar and Tristan Stubbs, then dismissing du Plessis in his next over. Vipraj Nigam fought hard at the end, but KKR defended the total successfully, winning by 18 runs and ending their two-match losing streak.

Every year IPL nears business end:
– Top teams tend to lose against bottom ranked teams.
– One team makes a comeback of the ages.
– One team chokes and fails to qualify for playoffs.Same story repeating every year.

After the match, Axar Patel spoke to the broadcasters and pointed to poor powerplay bowling and soft dismissals as key reasons for Delhi Capitals’ loss to KKR. He said:
“I think how the wicket was and how we bowled in the powerplay, we gave away 15-20 runs too many. We also lost a few wickets in a soft manner.”
When asked about the positives from the game, Axar highlighted how the team pulled things back after the powerplay and praised Vipraj Nigam’s performance. He said:
“The positive was how we restricted them after the powerplay, coming to the batting, even though few batters failed, 2-3 of us contributed and took it so close. When Vipraj was batting there was hope, if Ashutosh was there then they could have repeated the first game.”
Axar Patel, who picked up an injury while fielding during the first innings, shared an update after the match and sounded optimistic about his recovery.
“My skin got peeled off as I dived on the practice wickets to stop the ball, but the good thing is there are 3-4 days break and hopefully I will be able to recover,” Axar Patel said.
