In exciting news for Delhi Capitals (DC) fans, former England captain Kevin Pietersen has joined the team as a mentor for IPL 2025.
For the unversed, this will be Pietersen’s first coaching role in the IPL. He played in the league from 2009 to 2016 for three different teams, including Delhi Daredevils (now DC). Pietersen also captained the team 17 times, including during the 2014 season when they finished last with just two wins in 14 games.
Kevin Pietersen Joins Delhi Capitals as Mentor for IPL 2025
The 44-year-old Kevin Pietersen will be joining Hemang Badani (head coach), Matthew Mott (assistant coach), Munaf Patel (bowling coach), and Venugopal Rao (director of cricket) in the Delhi Capitals (DC) support staff.
Pietersen also captained England in 15 international matches, including a two-match Test series in India in 2008.
He has a close personal relationship with Kiran Kumar Grandhi, the chairman of GMR, who co-owns the DC franchise. Pietersen played a key role in facilitating a deal between GMR and Hampshire County Cricket Club in September last year.
In addition to the IPL, Kevin Pietersen has also played in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pakistan Super League (PSL), and Big Bash League (BBL). Over his career, he played 200 Twenty20 matches, scoring 5,695 runs at a strike rate of just under 137 and an average of 33.89.
Delhi Capitals took to their official social media handle and announced the big news. Sharing the news, DC wrote:

Kevin Pietersen’s Message to DC Fans: Excited to Help the Team Win the Title
Kevin Pietersen also expressed his excitement about returning to Delhi for IPL 2025. He mentioned that he loves the city and its fans, and he is eager to help Delhi Capitals in their pursuit of an IPL title.
“’I’m so excited to come home to Delhi! I have the fondest memories of my time with Delhi. I love the city, I love the fans and I’ll do everything I can to support the franchise in our quest for the title in 2025!” Pietersen posted on X.
