Punjab Kings made history by defending the lowest total ever in IPL history, defeating Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs in a thrilling match in Mullanpur on Tuesday.

IPL 2025: Historic Victory for Punjab Kings

KKR needed 112 to win and were in a strong position at 71 for 3 in 9.1 overs. However, they collapsed dramatically, losing seven wickets and scoring only 24 runs in the next six overs, eventually being bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the star performer for Punjab Kings, leading them to an unlikely victory with impressive figures of 4/28. He took key wickets, including Ajinkya Rahane (17), Angkrish Raghuvanshi (37), Rinku Singh (2), and Ramandeep Singh (0). Chahal’s magic happened in the 12th over when he took two wickets in consecutive balls, triggering KKR’s dramatic collapse.

Preity Zinta Celebrates Historic Win

The thrilling win brought a big smile to PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta, who celebrated with the players. She hugged Yuzvendra Chahal to congratulate him for his brilliant bowling performance against KKR.

Marco Jansen played a key role for Punjab Kings, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs. Xavier Bartlett, Glenn Maxwell, and Arshdeep Singh each claimed one wicket, helping PBKS pull off a stunning win.

The previous record for the lowest total defended was 116, set by Chennai Super Kings in 2009.

KKR’s Sunil Narine (5) tried to get them off to a fast start, but Jansen bowled him out. Bartlett soon followed by removing Quinton de Kock (2). KKR captain Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi briefly steadied the innings, with Rahane hitting a six.

But Chahal’s introduction in the 8th overturned the game. He got Rahane out LBW and then dismissed Raghuvanshi in his next over. KKR were 72 for 4 at the halfway point.

The match swung further in PBKS’s favor when Venkatesh Iyer was given out LBW off Glenn Maxwell in the 11th over.
