Rishabh Pant, captain of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), had a tough time with the bat in his debut match for the team in the IPL. Rishabh Pant failed to score any runs in the fourth match of IPL 2025 between DC and LSG at the Dr. YSR Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Monday, March 24.
Rishabh Pant Failed To Perform On LSG Debut Sparks
Rishabh Pant was acquired by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for a record ₹27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Despite strong competition from Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals, LSG secured his services.
Pant would have hoped to kick off his journey with LSG on a positive note, but things didn’t go as planned. He was dismissed for a 6-ball duck in the fourth match of the season. On the fourth ball of the 14th over, Pant tried to hit a delivery from Kuldeep Yadav, only to find Faf du Plessis in the field, who caught the ball. Looking visibly disappointed, Pant walked back to the dressing room with his head down.
Overall, Rishabh Pant has struggled against Kuldeep Yadav in the IPL, getting dismissed 3 times in 5 innings. He has managed to score just 23 runs off 23 balls in these encounters.
Meanwhile, LSG fans criticized Pant for his poor performance, with some even joking that it felt like he was still playing for the Delhi Capitals.

Michael Vaughan Made A Big Prediction About Rishabh Pant
Ahead of the DC vs LSG match, Michael Vaughan spoke on Cricbuzz and shared his thoughts on Rishabh Pant’s batting position. He said he would like Pant to bat higher up the order and face as many balls as possible. Vaughan was also excited about the potential partnership between Pant and coach Justin Langer.
He said, “I’m looking at Rishabh Pant, Justin Langer, very, very intense Justin Langer that was so driven, determined, maximized every ounce of what he got given. Then you’ve got Rishabh, who just looks like a carefree cricketer and just gives it a good old Yahoo. That could work.”

Vaughan praised Langer as a brilliant coach who had great success with Australia. He added, “He’ll have them playing in a very strategic way. He’ll have them, he will look at the data, he’ll look at all the information. But within that, he’ll want the likes of Rishabh Pant to go out and just express his talents. I would think he’ll probably bat him higher up the order.”
When asked if Pant should open, Vaughan said, “No, I don’t think so. Maybe three. If I’m managing Rishabh Pant, I want him facing as many of those 120 balls as possible. He’s got the ability to get me three figures. So I don’t want him coming down the back end just to get a cameo 40 or 50.”
