The owner of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sanjiv Goenka, made a kind gesture towards Rishabh Pant after he led the team to a big win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Thursday (March 27).
Pant Leads LSG to Strong Bounce Back with Five-Wicket Win Over SRH
After losing a close match to Delhi Capitals by 1 wicket earlier this week, Rishabh Pant’s team bounced back with a strong five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
Pant won the toss and chose to field first, a decision his team supported well. SRH, who scored 286/6 in their last match at the same ground, struggled to get going and ended up with a total of 190/9.
Although it was a competitive total, it wasn’t enough on a ground where 200+ totals have been common since last season. Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler for LSG, taking 4 wickets for 34 runs.
LSG chased down the target in just 17 overs, losing five wickets along the way. They started poorly with Aiden Markram getting out for just 1. However, in-form Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh put LSG in control with a strong 116-run partnership for the second wicket.
Pooran played an explosive knock, scoring 70 runs off just 26 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes. Marsh contributed with 52 runs off 31 balls.
Although LSG lost a few wickets towards the end, they comfortably reached the target. After the win, Sanjiv Goenka went to the team dugout and hugged Rishabh Pant. This moment was quite different from the exchange between them after the loss to Delhi Capitals.
Sanjiv Goenka’s Heartwarming Gesture Towards Rishabh Pant After SRH Victory
After the loss to Delhi Capitals, Sanjiv Goenka was seen having an animated conversation with Rishabh Pant and head coach Justin Langer in the dugout. However, after the impressive win over SRH on Thursday, the LSG owner praised Pant and expressed his appreciation for leading the team to such a dominant victory against the in-form side.

This was the same venue where Goenka had lost his temper last season, sparking a major controversy. After LSG faced a heavy defeat against SRH in IPL 2024, Goenka had a heated exchange with the then-captain KL Rahul. Following that, the franchise decided to release KL Rahul and replace him with Rishabh Pant, who was named the new captain.
