Mumbai Indians (MI) star batsman Rohit Sharma had a disappointing performance in his team’s opening match of IPL 2025 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Rohit Sharma’s Disappointing IPL 2025 Start
Rohit Sharma was dismissed without scoring in the match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. There were high expectations for him after leading India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. However, he disappointed his fans and was out on the fourth ball of the first over. CSK’s new recruit, 27-year-old left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed, took his wicket.
Rohit has always had trouble facing left-arm fast bowlers, and his record against Khaleel Ahmed in the IPL is also not good.
In 7 innings, Rohit has only scored 28 runs off Khaleel and has been out 3 times. His average score against Khaleel is just 9.33, and his strike rate is 65.11.
A New Low for Rohit: 18th Duck in IPL
Rohit reached a new low in the IPL when he got out for a duck against CSK, making it his 18th duck in the league, the most by any player.
He shares this record with Glenn Maxwell and Dinesh Karthik. The next players with the most ducks are Piyush Chawla and Sunil Narine, both having 16 ducks each.

Rohit Sharma’s Pre-Match Statement: “Focus on the End Goal…”
Ahead of the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma spoke to the host broadcasters and mentioned that the team was aiming to win their first match of the season.
Rohit also acknowledged that MI hasn’t won the opening match of the season since 2012 and expressed their intent to break that streak.
“Well, we will try to win the first match. We have come close a few times but it hasn’t happened in many years. The end goal matters more for us. Everyone has a goal for themselves,” he said.
“We know that we have not won the first game of the tournament for a long long time. We always have a chat with the boys. It’s better to focus on our game and play according to the situation of the game.”
