IPL 2026: A number of well-known players who once thrived in the shortest format may be heading into their final IPL mini-auction. Many of them have either grown older or slipped out of form, causing franchises to look elsewhere.
Over the years, many cricketers have left a strong mark on the IPL, doing their part for their teams before eventually moving on. This year’s mini-auction might be that turning point for a few more familiar names.
Recently, experienced stars Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell stepped away from the IPL by withdrawing from the auction. With that in mind, here are three players who might also be entering the auction for the last time.
IPL 2026 Players Who Might Be In Their Last Auction
3. Steve Smith
Australian batter Steve Smith is seen as one of the greatest players of the modern era. However, T20 cricket has never been his strongest format. With age catching up and his T20 form fading, IPL teams have repeatedly passed on him.
Smith last played in the IPL in 2021 and has gone unsold several times since. Although he has appeared in the league as an expert commentator, he kept playing T20 cricket with hopes of representing Australia in the Olympics.
At 36, it seems likely that this could be the final time he submits his name for the auction. If another year passes without any bids, it might quietly bring his IPL journey to a close.
2. Jonny Bairstow
England wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow has long been known for his explosive style, especially in T20 cricket. He has starred for England across formats and has always been a dangerous option at the top.
Bairstow played for Mumbai Indians last season and delivered some impressive performances. Many fans still remember his dominant run at SRH alongside David Warner and his brilliant century for Punjab Kings during their record chase of the highest IPL target.
Even so, Bairstow might be entering his final IPL auction. He may not continue in the league after this edition, although teams like KKR could still have interest as they search for a strong opening wicketkeeper-batter.
1. David Miller
South African left-hander David Miller has been one of the IPL’s most reliable finishers. He has helped several franchises win tight games and has delivered countless match-winning knocks. But with age rising and some fitness concerns in recent tournaments, his form has taken a hit.
Miller last featured for LSG in IPL 2025 but wasn’t able to create the impact he usually brings. His recent showings in international cricket have also been quiet, suggesting that his IPL career could be nearing its end, similar to his former Punjab Kings teammate Glenn Maxwell.
Despite this, David Miller is still likely to attract interest because of his track record and reputation as a finisher. Still, this mini-auction could be the final chapter of his IPL story.
