The forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League, (IPL 2026), has already been embroiled in a lot of controversies following the unexpected release of Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman by Kolkata Knight Riders. He was bought for a whopping ₹9.20 crore in the IPL 2026 mini-auction and thus is a big talking point in cricketing circles.

This decision came at a time when diplomatic and public relations between India and Bangladesh had soured, and the debate had therefore been further intensified.

Why Did KKR Release Mustafizur Rahman?

As reported, Mustafizur Rahman’s absence might have been impacted by the rising protests occurring in India after reports of attacks on Hindus inside Bangladesh. This might have resulted in anger directed at the KKR franchise, according to reports.

As a reaction to this, the BCCI has given instructions to the franchise. Then, the Kolkata Knight Riders chose to release Mustafizur Rahman before the start of the IPL 2026.

Will Mustafizur Rahman Take Legal Action Against KKR?

There was rapid speculation regarding Mustafizur Rahman taking any legal action against KKR. However, the situation is clear regarding this matter.

Bangladesh Cricketers Welfare Association (CWAB) President Mohammad Mithun disclosed that legal and administrative avenues were considered, but it was Mustafizur himself who decided not to continue.

Mustafizur Rahman assured that he himself does not want to take any kind of legal action against Kolkata Knight Riders. This move has drawn appreciation for being a mature and professional act on the part of the young pacer, who is merely 30 years of age.
