A Twenty20 cricket competition in India is known as the Indian Premier League (IPL). The event presents performers with a range of accolades at the conclusion of each season. There are numerous trophies, including Orange Cap, Purple Cap, Maximum Sixes Award, Most Valuable Player, and Emerging Player of the Year. The IPL player with the most wickets wins the Purple Cap. After the Orange Cap’s debut on April 25, 2008, the IPL announced the Purple Cap’s debut on May 13, 2008. The bowler who claimed the most wickets during the competition would be awarded the Purple Cap.

No matter how dangerous the opposition’s batters are, the 20-over format can have the match’s momentum changed by a few quick wickets at any point. Looking at the IPL 2022 Auction buy also demonstrates how this time, the clubs have gone all out to get players who can bowl a few standout overs during the competition.

Which bowlers have received the Purple Cap award since 2008? We shall examine the bowlers who took home this prize in the Indian Premier League from 2008 to 2022.
Sohail Tanvir – 1st IPL
Sohail Tanvir’s league-leading debut effort is recognised as one of the best bowling efforts ever. He amassed the most wickets during IPL 2008, earning the Purple Cap. He recorded 22 wickets in 11 games. Tanvir played a significant role in the Rajasthan Royals (RR) winning the championship that year as a prominent member of the group. A 6/14 performance against the Chennai Super Kings was among them. He is the only player from Pakistan to wear a purple IPL cap.
RP Singh – 2nd IPL
Similar to Sohail Tanvir, Rudra Pratap Singh was a crucial part of his team’s IPL 2009 championship-winning performance. On South Africa’s accommodating pitches, RP Singh made the ball talk. The left-arm bowler claimed 23 wickets in 16 games. He received the Purple Cap for his outstanding IPL 2009 performance.
Pragyan Ojha – IPL 3
Despite the fact that the Chennai Super Kings were the team to watch in 2010, Pragyan Ojha of the Deccan Chargers dominated the batters with the ball. The golden “Purple Cap” was awarded to the left-arm bowler in IPL 2010 after 21 wickets in 16 games.
Lasith Malinga – IPL 4
In the IPL 2011, Lasith Malinga had a terrific season. In addition to leading Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign, he excelled while wearing the blue and gold of the Mumbai Indians. The most productive bowler in IPL history, Lasith Malinga, collected 28 wickets in 16 games, including a five-wicket performance.
Morne Morkel – IPL5
The Delhi Capitals was unable to bring home the coveted IPL title in 2012 after leading the entire season, but its star fast bowler, Morne Morkel, continued to hold the top spot for leading wicket-takers. The South African bowler, who made 16 appearances, finished with 25 wickets and was given the “Purple Cap” award.
Dwayne Bravo – IPL6
The Chennai Super Kings’ smiling assassin, Dwayne Bravo, enjoyed a breakthrough season in the 2013 IPL. Bravo finished the season with 32 wickets in 18 games and was nearly unreadable because to his array of stratagems.
Mohit Sharma – IPL7
Mohit Sharma was at the height of his game as a fast bowler during the IPL’s 2014–15 season. And it was on display in the 2014 IPL when he led the fast-bowling side for Chennai Super Kings to victory. Sharma finished the season with the most wickets, taking 23, in 16 IPL games. Mohit didn’t let CSK captain MS Dhoni down when he put a lot of trust in him that season.
Dwayne Bravo – IPL8
The CSK pacer earned the Purple Cap for the third consecutive year. In the IPL 2015 season, Dwayne Bravo, who topped the seamer rankings in 2013, was performing at his peak. Once more confusing batters with his arsenal of cunning, the West Indian player finished with 26 wickets in 17 games to reclaim the coveted “Purple Cap.”
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – IPL9, IPL10
The SunRisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar dominated the seasons in 2016 and 2017. Bhuvi choked the opposing hitters with his knuckleballs and other variations, despite David Warner being the SRH batting of the year in 2016. Bhuvneshwar was practically unbeatable in the 2016 IPL.
