IPL Teams Records and Statistics: List of Victories, Defeats and Draws for Defunct Teams
Get to know about the IPL teams who have made records for the most victories, defeats and draws that the active teams have recorded until now.
A Twenty20 (T20) tournament for men’s cricket is called the Indian Premier League. The tournament has been contested annually since it was first staged in 2008 and is put on by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). At various times throughout the tournament’s history, several teams entered and exited, and some teams’ names were changed. One of the top leagues in the world of cricket is the Indian Premier League. The Twenty20 Big Bash, which ran from 2005–2006 to 2011–2012, was compared to the IPL when it began in 2008 with eight clubs. However, few would have anticipated the level of fame and prestige this league would achieve.
Currently, IPL is the most competitive cricket league in the world. The Indian Premier League had eight clubs when it first began, but it now has 10 teams for its fifteenth season in 2022. In the IPL 2022, two new clubs have been added: the Gujrat Titans and the Lucknow Super Giants, who are named after the cities of Ahmedabad and Lucknow, respectively. Even though the Indian Premier League has experienced many ups and downs along the way, it has proven to be the most successful T20 league in all of cricket. In the previous seasons, we saw hundreds of incredible performances and experienced tens of thousands of emotions. Let’s take a look at one of the IPL’s records, either held by teams or by players individually. Here is a collection of the Indian Premier League’s records and statistics.
In Season
A team has won the Indian Premier League five times, three times, twice, and one out of the thirteen teams that have competed in the league since its start. Three other clubs have won the championship once. With five IPL titles under their belt, MI is the most successful team in the league’s history. Except for 2020 and 2022, CSK is the only team to have advanced to the playoff round of the competition three times. They have also won the championship. The Deccan Chargers, RR, and SRH are the other three champions of the competition.

DCH
The Deccan Chargers, a team owned by the Deccan Chronicle, were one of the favorites to win the Indian Premier League’s first season. They included athletes like Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs, Shahid Afridi, Andrew Symonds, Scott Styris, Chaminda Vaas, and a youthful Rohit Sharma on their team. VVS Laxman oversaw the group. They finished the competition at the bottom, which made them a terrible letdown. Only two of the Chargers’ 14 games ended in victories, and their final seven contests were all losses. In IPL history, the Deccan Chargers were subjected to the biggest run chase by the Rajasthan Royals.
KTK
One of the two new teams added to the IPL for its fourth season was the Kochi Tuskers Kerala. Mahela Jayawardene, the team’s captain, was joined by VVS Laxman, Brendon McCullum, Muttiah Muralitharan, Brad Hodge, and Ravindra Jadeja. KTK fell to Royal Challengers Bangalore in their IPL debut in Kochi due to AB de Villiers’ 54-run performance. After losing their first two games, they won their next three, including one in which they defeated the Mumbai Indians by chasing down 183.
PWI
One of the two new franchises added to the fourth IPL season was Pune Warriors India, owned by Subrata Roy. The group included players like Graeme Smith, Jesse Ryder, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, and Mitchell Marsh and was captained by Yuvraj Singh. But before the competition began, PWI lost a few crucial players like Ashish Nehra, John Hastings, and Steve Smith.
Pune Warriors India enjoyed a fantastic IPL 2011 season with victories in their opening two games. But six losses in a row came just after that. The group signed Sourav Ganguly and managed to win a few games. However, it was too little, too late for them, as they finished their first IPL campaign in ninth place.
GL
In IPL 2016 and 2017, Gujarat Lions took the place of the Rajasthan Royals. Aaron Finch, Brendon McCullum, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhawal Kulkarni, Dwayne Smith, and Dwayne Bravo were some of the team’s quality players. Suresh Raina was named captain. With victories over Kings XI Punjab, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Mumbai Indians, GL had a solid start to the 2016 IPL season. Aaron Finch was selected as the game’s MVP all three times. Unfortunately, they lost to RCB by 144 runs, the then-highest margin of victory in IPL history.
RPS
After the two-time champions and Rajasthan Royals were both banned for match-fixing, Rising Pune Supergiant took the position of Chennai Super Kings for two seasons. With players like Steve Smith, Ravichandran Ashwin, Faf du Plessis, Ajinkya Rahane, and Kevin Pietersen in its line-up, the team was known as the Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2016 IPL. MS Dhoni served as their captain.
They got the campaign off to a good start by defeating the defending champion Mumbai Indians. But this was immediately followed by four losses in a row and setbacks for several crucial players, including Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis, and Kevin Pietersen, who all suffered injuries.
