Another top pacer has been injured in Team India ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, adding to their injury woes. According to the BCCI officials, due to a stiff back, Deepak Chahar, India’s top pacer, will not play in the second and third One-Day Internationals against South Africa. Deepak Chahar will travel to the National Cricket Academy to have his fitness assessed ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup tournament 2022.
According to the sources, the top Indian pacer, Deepak Chahar, will miss the remaining two ODI games against Australia at home after sustaining a serious ankle twist and would be replaced by Washington Sundar. After BCCI on Saturday officially ruled out Deepak Chahar from the remaining two ODI games, the ace pacer headed to the National Cricket Academy to asses the severity of his back and hip injury which he endured before the first ODI in Lucknow against South Africa.
As one of the four key standby players for the ICC T20 World Cup, all eyes are currently focused on Deepak’s fitness assessment. Deepka Chahar is also a strong candidate to take Jasprit Bumrah’s place in the Indian team, who is currently injured and officially ruled out from the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup tournament 2022.
Chahar has already endured a number of injuries, and although he recently returned to playing international cricket after a lengthy absence of six months, the most recent one could have an adverse effect on his performance.
Reacting to the ongoing buzz around Chahar’s participation in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup , the BCCI stated “We will soon get an update on Deepak Chahar’s health. He had a back pain on the eve of the game and he was not comfortable at all. Therefore, the team management decided to send Deepak Chahar to NCA where further scans would be conducted. Primarily, to us, it looks like a back and hip injury.”
Team India has already been hampered by a long list of injuries, which includes pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and seasoned bowler Ravindra Jadeja. Deepak Chahar’s back & hip injury would be another significant obstacle for the men in blue.
