USA defended their title at the ISU World Team Trophy 2025 on Saturday (19 April) in Tokyo, Japan. Alysa Liu and Amber Glenn anchored the victory with personal bests in the women’s free as USA. Both produced a one-two for the stars and stripes.

Newly crowned world champion Liu, who came back from retirement recently, registered 150.97 points.

“I actually can’t believe that I won this competition either,” she said. “I’m really grateful and I’m honoured that people like my skating this much.

“It makes me want to work so much harder because I feel like I can deliver much better.”

Meanwhile, her teammate Glenn roared back from a disappointing short program to hit 148.93, finally nailing the triple Axel that had eluded her as of late.

Sakamoto Kaori came third with 145.00 for Japan. The hosts finished second overall, 16 points behind defending champions USA, who tallied 126 points from the eight programs.

Italy won bronze for the first time at the event with 86 points, followed by France (78), Canada (72) and competition debutantes Georgia (68).

ISU World Team Trophy 2025: What happened in pairs free

Reigning world champions Miura Riku and Kihara Ryuichi delivered another personal best to take the pairs free title on 145.06.

“We were talking about how we wanted to come home injury free with a smile on our face, win or lose,” Miura said. “I’m really happy with the way we finished.”

Miura/Kihara improved their previous personal best by 0.71, a mark they set two years ago at their home world championships in Saitama.

For their final skate of 2024-25, the duo nailed a triple toe-double Axel-double Axel combo making a solid start and never seemed to drop for the rest of the routines.

Italy’s Sara Conti/Niccolo Macii came second with a personal best of their own in 142.26. Anastasiia Metelkina/Luka Berulava of Georgia finished third on 139.96.
