Public criticism came swiftly and sternly from Paul. On social media, he labelled Davis a “walking human piece of garbage,” accusing him of a long history of unprofessional behaviour.
According to Paul, Davis would show up hours late to promotional obligations and make outlandish or unreasonable demands throughout the buildup to the fight.
Paul correlated this behaviour with Davis’s past legal entanglements, stating he did not want to reward what he described as an alleged “woman abuser” with fame or financial gain. He added that his team’s time and effort had been wasted in consequence.
Davis Responds Then Deletes Posts Targeting Paul and MVP
Gervonta Davis responded online, at first saying that Paul was “struggling in training camp” and implying he would have dominated him in the ring. “Everything happens for a reason,” Davis wrote, downplaying the significance of the cancellation.
In a follow-up post, later deleted and reported by sources, Davis deflected blame onto Paul’s company, Most Valuable Promotions. He referred to the promotion as “garbage” and accused them of forcing veteran boxing advisor Al Haymon to intervene to oversee aspects of the event. It was the deleted posts that added another layer to the escalating drama, even though they did little to reverse the ultimate fate of the fight.
