Jannik Sinner’s 2024 season was nothing short of spectacular. He earned a remarkable 73-6 win-loss record and clinched eight titles, including Grand Slams and the Davis Cup. However, his momentum was disrupted after he tested positive for a banned substance, clostebol, in March 2024. This violation led to a three-month suspension. Despite this setback, he began his 2025 season with an amazing win at the Australian Open in January.

Jannik Sinner’s return comes at a crucial time ahead of the French Open, one of the Grand Slams. He will make his return at the Italian Open 2025, which is a Masters 1000 event, played on clay. Being the top seed, he received a first-round draw and will not face Mariano Navone for the first time in history.

Mariano Navone On The Clash

Navone said ahead of the clash, “It’s special to be here and play Jannik on his return. It’s going to be a tough match because he’s an impressive player who has already won multiple Grand Slams. But I have to prepare myself to try and win it. I hope I can spoil his comeback a little, but it’s definitely going to be a special match (laughs). After three months without competition, he’ll be lacking some rhythm. It won’t be easy for him either.”

“There will be some nerves, too. But it’s still a match we both have to play, and it’ll be a real challenge for him to come back here with all this crowd. Of course, I’d rather play someone who isn’t the world No. 1. But it’s going to be a great experience to face him. I’ve never played against a world No. 1 before. I’ve had some high-level matches, but facing him here in Rome, in his home country, will be one of the biggest matches of my career. I want to see this as a challenge,” he added

The match will take place on 10 May and will be broadcast live on Tennis Channel in the USA, Sky Sports in the UK, and TSN in Canada.
