The pacer Jasprit Bumrah will lead the Indian team for the upcoming 5th rescheduled Test match against England at Edgbaston. Jasprit was named captain because skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out due to COVID-19. The last game of the series will begin on 1st July. BCCI confirmed the news on Thursday, 30th June that Bumrah will lead the side in place of Rohit.
After BCCI made Bumrah the captain of the side, the pacer became the 8th Indian captain in last one year. Since July 2021, the Indian team saw 8 new captains. The 8 captains include Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, and Jasprit Bumrah.
It will be a great opportunity for the pacer (Jasprit Bumrah) to lead the side in one of the important Tests in England. Along with the captain, BCCI also announce the name or vice-captain for this 5th rescheduled Test match. Wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant is named as the vice-captain of the side for this match. India is leading the series by 2-1 and will be looking to maintain this lead or make it 3-1. A loss in this 5th Test would stop India from making history in England.
