Jasprit Bumrah’s Delivery Leads to One of the Strangest Dismissals in T20 Cricket: In one of the most unusual and dramatic moments of the series, Jasprit Bumrah’s clever delivery to Mitchell Owen produced a bizarre dismissal during the second T20I between India and Australia on Friday (October 31) at the MCG.
The incident happened on the fourth ball of the 18th over during Australia’s chase. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a smart, slower off-cutter, catching Owen off guard. Trying to make room and drive the ball, Owen managed only a faint edge that went straight into the gloves of wicketkeeper Sanju Samson.
The Umpire’s Change of Heart Goes Viral
Both Jasprit Bumrah and Sanju Samson appealed immediately, convinced they had their man. However, the umpire initially shook his head and turned down the appeal. Just as Jasprit Bumrah was about to go for a review, umpire Wayne Knights suddenly reversed his decision and raised his finger.
Owen, still unsure, decided to challenge the call. But UltraEdge confirmed a clear spike, proving that Bumrah’s sharp delivery had indeed found the edge.
As Owen walked back for 14 off 10 balls, Bumrah celebrated in his trademark calm style. Meanwhile, the umpire’s dramatic U-turn became an instant talking point online, quickly going viral among cricket fans.

India Collapses to Their Second-Biggest T20I Defeat at the MCG
Despite some fight from the Indian bowlers later in the innings, the damage had already been done by Australia’s openers, Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh. India’s batting collapse earlier in the match proved costly as Australia cruised to a four-wicket win with 40 balls still remaining.
This was India’s second-biggest defeat in T20I history in terms of balls left. Their heaviest loss in this format also came against Australia at the same venue back in 2008, when 52 balls were left.
Australia Go 1-0 Up in the Series
Abhishek Sharma’s brilliant knock of 68 from 37 balls was the only real highlight for India. After setting a modest target of 125, India struggled to find momentum. The Australian openers attacked from the very first over, with Marsh scoring 46 and Head adding 28 to lay a strong foundation. Josh Inglis also chipped in with 20 runs to help seal the chase comfortably.
For India, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, and Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets each, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Aussies. With this win, Australia went 1-0 up in the five-match T20I series after the first game was washed out in Canberra on October 29.
Suryakumar Yadav Praises Abhishek Sharma and Josh Hazlewood
After the match, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav praised both Abhishek Sharma and Josh Hazlewood for their performances. Hazlewood was named Player of the Match for his incredible spell of 3/13 in four overs.
Suryakumar Yaadav said at the post-match presentation, “The way he bowled in the powerplay, if you’re four down in the powerplay, it’s difficult to recover from that. Well bowled to him. Abhishek has been doing this for quite some time now. He knows his game and his identity, and he is not changing it anymore, and hopefully he sticks to it and plays many more knocks like this for us. I think we need to do what we did in the first game. Bat well when batting first and then come out and defend.”
The focus now shifts to Hobart, where the third T20I will be played on November 2.
