Jean Pierre Adams, former French national team defender passed away at the age of 73. Nimes, Jean’s former club have confirmed on Monday.
He played for clubs like Nimes, Paris Saint-Germain, and OGC Nice in the French league as a center-back. Meanwhile, he also represented France at the international level.
Adams was admitted to Édouard Herriot Hospital in Lyon, on 17 March 1982. He was suffering a ligament rupture in his knee. During the operation, the anesthesiologist mistakingly provided a lethal dose of anesthesia to the player. As a result, Jean-Pierre Adams suffered bronchospasm as his brain was deprived of oxygen. The player, at the age of 34, slipped into a coma and never gained consciousness.
Jean was taken care of by his wife until his death. Although suggested by many, Bernadette always rejected the idea of Euthanasia.
Jean-Pierre and Bernadette had two sons together, Laurent Adams, born in 1969, and Frédéric Adams, born in 1976.
Jean was one of the first men to represent France, having been born in West Africa. Adams made 22 international appearances for France in the 1970s. Meanwhile, His center-back partnership with Marius Tresor for France was nicknamed “the blackguard”. Jean last played for amateurs Chalons in 1981 before his retirement that year.
