JP Duminy, the former South African cricketer and batting coach, has resigned as South Africa’s limited-overs batting coach. Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Friday that Duminy had resigned for personal reasons. His tenure has been for nearly a year and a half, since he took over as batting coach in March 2023. CSA also stated that his resignation was mutual and they would look for a replacement soon.
JP Duminy’s Tenure as Batting Coach
Duminy’s tenure as the batting coach of South Africa’s limited-overs team was characterized by his deep understanding of the game, given his extensive experience both domestically and internationally.
As a player, Duminy was a key figure for South Africa across formats. His role as a batting coach seemed to follow naturally from his accomplished career, where he had excelled as a left-handed batsman and a part-time spinner.

During his IPL career from 2009 to 2018, Duminy played for various franchises, viz., Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. His consistency in this league had him in tremendous demand.
Duminy played 83 IPL matches, scoring 2,029 runs, along with 14 half-centuries. His ability to shine when it mattered most under the pressure of the fast game of T20 cricket proved him to be an excellent player in the league who could play both as a batter and as a useful part-time bowler.
