Juventus Push For Jonathan David Transfer After Canada’s Gold Cup Exit

Juventus Go Full Throttle for Jonathan David After Gold Cup Heartbreak

Canada’s Gold Cup campaign is over, and Jonathan David might be packing more than just his bags.

The Lille striker gave his country a glimmer of hope, scoring in regular time and calmly slotting home in the penalty shootout. But even that wasn’t enough, as Guatemala crashed the party and sent Canada tumbling out before the semis. Ouch.

Silver lining? No more international duty means David’s future is officially back on the transfer carousel and Juventus are sprinting to the front of the queue.

The Bianconeri have been sniffing around David for a while, and with the 25-year-old now a free agent (yes, contract expired and all), they’re looking to pounce. And fast.

Juve’s Summer Shopping Spree (Starring Jonathan David)

Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and general manager Damien Comolli are leading the chase, with David now one of the headline acts in Juve’s summer rebuild plans.

But of course, it’s never that simple in Turin.

Enter Dušan Vlahović.

The Serbian striker is still under contract until 2026 and has zero interest in taking a pay cut or heading for the exit. So unless something gives, Juve are stuck playing transfer Tetris with a big 6’3 Serbian block in the middle.

Still, Juventus aren’t letting that kill their vibe. Talks with David’s camp are in full swing, and personal terms are basically sorted. We’re talking €6 million a year, plus another €2 million in bonuses. Not bad at all.

But there’s a bit of a tug-of-war over the extras, namely, a €5-6 million signing-on fee and the ever-controversial agent commission, which Juve want to shrink from €15 million to €12 million. Every million counts when you’ve got a budget that’s tighter than a Serie A defensive line.

What About Manchester United?

Here’s where it gets strange.

Despite all the talk earlier this summer, there’s been zilch in terms of concrete movement from Manchester United. And it’s a bit of a head-scratcher, really.

David brings pace, sharp link-up play, and a serious eye for goal, basically, the exact things United need after another season of attacking inconsistency. Yet, the Red Devils are seemingly stuck in window-shopping mode while Juventus are making offers.

Maybe United are playing the long game, or maybe they’ve just missed the bus.

Either way, if Juve get this deal over the line and figure out what to do with Vlahović, it could be one of the smartest free-agent moves of the summer.
