Early in the Wellington Test, the hosts New Zealand are dominating Sri Lanka. Kane Williamson and Henry Nicholls both hit double-centuries to help the hosts post a big first innings total and take control of the match. During that first innings, Williamson amassed the first 8000 Test runs for New Zealand as well as the most international centuries.

Sri Lanka chose to field first after winning the toss in the final game of the two-match Test series, trailing by a score of 1-0. While Kane Williamson scored 215 runs off 296 balls (23 fours and two sixes), Henry Nichols scored 200 not out off 240 balls (15 fours and four sixes). Their batting contributed to the hosts scoring 580/4 before the first innings were declared.

Sri Lanka was struggling at 26/2 at the end of the second day of the Wellington Test.

Kane Williamson, New Zealand’s leading Test run-scorer, became the first Black Caps cricketer to reach 8000 Test runs. At the end of 164 innings, the right-handed batter had scored 8124 Test runs (94 Tests).

Kane Williamson: Second New Zealand cricketer to score 17000 international runs

Kane Williamson became the second New Zealand cricketer to reach the 17000 international runs milestone, following Ross Taylor (18199 runs). In 402 international innings, he has scored 17142 runs (342 matches).

1st time New Zealand experienced 2 double-centuries in a Test innings

In addition to Kane Williamson, Henry Nichols hit a double tonne in that inning. It was the first time in Test history that New Zealand had two double-centuries in the same innings. Meanwhile, it was the 18th time in Test cricket history that two double-centuries were scored in the same innings.
