Kevin Pietersen recently took to social media to applaud Sarfaraz Khan for his impressive fitness transformation. At the same time, he sent a clear message to another young Indian talent, Prithvi Shaw. Sarfaraz has long been known for piling on runs in domestic cricket, but questions around his fitness have often held him back from becoming a regular in the Indian Test team.
Kevin Pietersen Applauds Sarfaraz Khan’s Remarkable Fitness Transformation
Even though he’s been a standout performer in the Ranji Trophy for years, Sarfaraz only got his big break during the home Test series against England in 2024. Since then, though, he hasn’t been able to lock down a permanent spot and was left out of the current squad touring England.
Instead of getting discouraged, Sarfaraz Khan seems to have taken the setback as motivation. He’s clearly turned his focus toward fitness and is working hard to prove he belongs at the highest level.
Pietersen commented on a tweet highlighting Sarfaraz’s transformation, saying: “Outstanding effort, young man! Huge congrats and I’m sure it’s going to lead to better and more consistent performances on the field. I love the time you’ve spent reorganising your priorities.”
The former England captain’s praise is yet another sign of how much belief still exists in Sarfaraz’s potential within the cricket world.
In the same post, Kevin Pietersen took the chance to send a subtle message to Prithvi Shaw, encouraging him to draw inspiration from Sarfaraz’s impressive transformation. “Can someone show Prithvi this, please? It can be done! Strong body, strong mind,” he wrote.

Prithvi Shaw’s Struggles and a Fresh Start
Much like Sarfaraz, Shaw burst onto the scene with great potential but has since slipped out of the national spotlight, partly due to inconsistent form and reported off-field issues. In an effort to restart his career, Shaw recently moved from Mumbai to Maharashtra in domestic cricket, hoping a new setting would help him find his rhythm again.

“At this stage of my career, I believe joining the Maharashtra team will help me grow further as a cricketer,” Shaw said in a statement, while also thanking the Mumbai Cricket Association for their support throughout his journey so far.
Sarfaraz Khan, now 27, has represented India in six Test matches, scoring 371 runs, which includes a century and three half-centuries. With his renewed focus on fitness and a strong track record, he’ll be hoping the selectors give him a longer opportunity to prove himself at the highest level.
