Pakistan’s disastrous tour of New Zealand ended not only with a 3-0 loss in the ODI series but also with drama and a major controversy. After the final ODI in Mount Maunganui, Pakistan all-rounder Khushdil Shah lost his temper in a shocking moment that has now gone viral.
Khushdil Shah’s Heated Confrontation with Fans
After Pakistan’s 43-run loss to New Zealand, Khushdil Shah lost his temper and got into a heated argument with fans. He charged towards a section of the crowd that had taunted him. Security and teammates quickly intervened, but Khushdil continued arguing with the fans, who had made offensive comments about the Pakistani players.
This strange incident happened right after Pakistan was bowled out for just 221 while chasing a target of 265 in the third ODI, which was shortened to 42 overs at Mount Maunganui. Before this whitewash, Pakistan had only won one T20I out of the five-match series in New Zealand, following their poor performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
After this, a group of fans trolled and abused the Pakistani players, causing Khushdil to lose his temper and run towards them. Meanwhile, journalist Imran Siddique mentioned that a few Afghan men had also behaved badly with the Pakistani players.
He stated, “Two Afghan men misbehaved with Pakistani cricketers in Mount Maunganui. Khushdil Shah asked them to stop, but they continued to abuse him, prompting a reaction from the player.”
Pakistan Team Management Condemns Fan Behavior
The Pakistan team management has strongly condemned the abusive behavior of foreign fans during the match. Reports suggest that some fans used foul language toward the Pakistani players. When Khushdil Shah asked them to stop, two Afghan fans responded with more abuse in Pashto and even tried to confront him physically.
“The Pakistan cricket team management has strongly condemned the abusive language directed at national players by foreign spectators. During the match today, foreign spectators hurled inappropriate remarks at cricketers present on the field,” the PCB said.
“When anti-Pakistan slogans emerged, cricketer Khushdil Shah stepped in and urged the spectators to refrain. In response, Afghan spectators escalated the situation by using further inappropriate language in Pashto. Following the Pakistani team’s complaint, stadium officials intervened and ejected the two disruptive spectators,” the statement added.
