Korea Open 2024: China’s Lu Guangzu Wins Final To End Title Draught
In 2018, Lu Guangzu made into his maiden final at the Lingshui China Masters. Since then, he has won both the Australian Open and Canada Open’s titles.
China’s Lu Guangzu clinched the men’s singles title at the 2024 BWF Korea Open Badminton Championships by beating Taiwan’s Lee Chia-hao in the final.
World number 13 Lu, who was the tournament’s seven seed, earned a hard-fought win at 21-16, 20-22, 21-18 to lift his first trophy since the Canada Open in 2018.
World number 30 Lee was unseeded in the Korean Open 2024.
Lu got off to a decent start and took the first game 21-16. Lee gave a fight back and won the second game 22-20. The Chinese gained an upper hand in the decider with a score of 21-18 to finish at the top of the podium.
China’s world No 1 Shi Yuqi was knocked out in the quarterfinals, while Denmark’s Viktor Axelsen, who won his second consecutive Olympic gold in Paris last month, did not participate in the tournament.

Lu Guangzu’s Career Highlights
In 2018, Lu made into his maiden final at the Lingshui China Masters. Since then, he has won both the Australian Open and Canada Open’s titles.
The 27-year-old reached the final of the Australian Open, his first final in four years, defeating world No.2 Lee Zii Jia on his way to thetitle glory. Although he lost to compatriot Shi Yuqi in three games, he qualified for the World Tour Finals for the first time in his badminton career. In his group, Lu Guangzu beat Prannoy H. S. in a tight three-game match, but failed to qualify for the semi-finals as he went down to world No.1 Viktor Axelsen and Kodai Naraoka, both in straight games.
Lu Guangzu has won multiple titles in the men’s team and mixed team. He won a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Championship held in Dubai.
Final Results at Korea Open 2024
At the 2024 BWF Korea Open Badminton Championships, South Korea’s seventh seed Kim Ga-eun bagged the women’s singles title in a walkover against China’s Wang Zhiyi.
Malaysian duo of Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei prevailed over Chinese shuttlers Guo Xinwa and Li Qian 2-1 to secure the mixed doubles title.
Indonesian pair of Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana reigned over South Korea’s Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae in straight sets in the men’s doubles final
South Korean shuttlers Jeong Na-eun and Kim Hye-jeong got the better of Malaysian pair Pearly Ta and Muralitharan Thinaah 21-12, 21-11 to claim the gold in women’s doubles.
