Lando Norris finally gave his final answer to everyone who doubted him this year as he finished P3 in the season finale, Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025 and secured his maiden F1 title. In the sport’s 75-years long history, he became the only 35th different driver to win the Driver’s Championship and the 11th British driver to do so. But that’s not it, he broke way too many records with this feat, so let’s get down to the details.
A Thrilling Season Finale At Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025
Heading to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2025, Lando Norris was ahead of four-time world champion Max Verstappen by 12 points and his teammate Oscar Piastri who led the championship for more than half a season by 16 points. While many enthusiasts expected him to bottle thir race, after all, it isn’t easy with Mad Max breathing down your neck, he definitely gave it his all and had a flawless race. To win 2025 Driver’s Championship, Norris needed to finish on the podium, regardless of what Max and Piastri do in the race, and after a thrilling season finale race, he managed to finish P3, which left him a world champion by just 2 points.
Lando Norris Breaks Multiple Records With 2025 Driver’s Championship

With this Championship, Lando Norris became the 13th McLaren driver to win a Driver’s title after legends like Niki Lauda, Alain Prost. Ayrton Senna and Lewis Hamilton. Norris made his F1 debut with McLaren in 2019 and stuck with the team ever since, even when they were having major problems with their car. After a huge upgrade in 2023, he ended a 17-year Driver’s Championship drought as no driver has won it for McLaren after Lewis Hamilton in 2008.
He became the 35th different driver and 11th British driver since Lewis Hamilton in 2020 to win the Driver’s title. He secured his world title after seven F1 seasons after his debut and now ranks as F1’s 12th youngest world champion, achieving this feat without even winning the season finale.
He also passed David Coulthard’s McLaren record of 150 Grand Prix starts before winning a Driver’s title. He also ended Max Verstappen’s dominant reign of four consecutive titles from 2021-2024 and delivered one of the most nail-biting season finale finishes in Formula 1 history.
An Emotional Win For Lando Norris

Lando Norris appeared to be visibly emotional after winning the 2025 Driver’s Championship. Post race, he shared with the interviewer, “Oh God! I’ve not cried in a while, I didn’t think I’d cry but I did. It’s a long journey. First of all, I want to say a big thanks to my guys, everyone at McLaren, my parents… I’m not crying! My mum, my dad, they were the ones who supported me since the beginning.”
“It feels amazing. Now I know what Max feels like a little bit, and I want to congratulate Max and Oscar, my two biggest competitors all season. It’s been a pleasure to race against both of them, and I’ve learnt a lot from both of them as well. I’ve enjoyed it, it’s been a long year, but we did it, and I’m so proud of everyone,” he added
And with that, the 2025 Formula 1 season comes to an end. All Formula 1 drivers and teams will now get the much-deserved rest during the winter break before returning to the grid in 2026 for a private test ahead of the 2026 Formula 1 season where Cadillac will be joining as 11th team on the grid.
