The fifth edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) set a new benchmark for high-scoring matches. Jaffna Kings and Galle Marvels, the top two teams, clashed in the finals, with Jaffna emerging victorious to clinch their fourth title. Jaffna’s dominance, winning four out of five seasons, is unprecedented in the tournament’s history.
With three finals appearances under their belt, Jaffna’s experience was evident in their performance. Bhanuka Rajapaksa’s explosive innings led Galle to 184/6 in 20 overs, setting up a competitive target. Despite Asitha Fernando’s impressive figures of 3/35, the Kings showcased their prowess in the chase.
Pathum Nissanka’s early dismissal for a golden duck didn’t faze Rilee Rossouw, who, alongside Kusal Mendis, forged a record 185-run partnership. Rossouw’s century, his second in LPL history, ensured Jaffna’s triumph.
