In an intense Bundesliga clash, Bayer Leverkusen, the league leaders, managed to secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Borussia Dortmund. The equilibrium was established after Victor Boniface canceled Julian Ryerson’s early opener, setting the stage for an action-packed encounter.
Dortmund made a fairy-tale start, with Ryerson slotting home in the fifth minute after good build-up work by Niclas Fullkrug. Despite Leverkusen’s controlled possession, Dortmund’s well-positioned defense proved formidable, thwarting attempts by Granit Xhaka and Alejandro Grimaldo.
The hosts thought they had taken the lead when Florian Wirtz found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out due to Boniface’s offside position in the build-up. The pressure mounted on Dortmund as Leverkusen sought an equalizer.

In the 79th minute, Leverkusen found their breakthrough when substitute Patrik Schick skillfully navigated Dortmund’s defense, setting up Boniface for the crucial equalizer from close range.
Both teams had opportunities to snatch a late win, but accuracy eluded Schick and Fullkrug in the dying minutes. Leverkusen maintained their top position in the Bundesliga standings with the draw, while Dortmund slipped to fifth place.
Dortmund coach Edin Terzic acknowledged the team’s strong start: “We started very well and opened the scoring in the early stages. It is a deserved share of the spoils.”
Elsewhere in the Bundesliga, Mainz suffered their first defeat under interim coach Jan Siewert, succumbing to a 1-0 away win by Freiburg secured by Michael Gregoritsch’s sole goal. Augsburg came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory against Eintracht Frankfurt.
