“Like to keep it simple”- Says Rohit Sharma about his captaincy ahead of Asia Cup 2022

The excitement and tension are rising with each passing day as Asia Cup nears its inception. The opener itself is set to be a fiery blaze as arch rivals India and Pakistan clash on the 28th. Both the teams are clear in their motives to beat each other. While the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team looks to redeem its dominance, Pakistan will look to defend their newfound win. The Indian team is preparing hard for the tournament as they look forward to not only beating Pakistan but winning the Asia Cup.

Recently, India’s captain Rohit Sharma explained some aspects pertaining to the team as they gear up for the challenge. Moreover, he opened up about his captaincy tactics ahead of the tournament. “For me as a captain, it is very important that we create an environment for the players where they don’t feel that it’s a very high-pressure environment.”

“We try and create (an environment) for the guys to come out in this team and try have fun and enjoy each other’s company. Because I strongly feel that it’s important not to allow the pressure to creep in too much,” said Rohit. Moreover, discussion about form and mental pressure has started after the recent comments by Virat Kohli. Sharma addressed the issue and how he attempts to tackle the form of some players.

“When you know certain players are going through tough times, we try to give them a clear understanding of what’s happening. Making him understand what we expect from him, his role in this team, and all those kind of things,” he said.

“That is where the individual can blossom because when we give them the clarity of what the team is expecting from you, I think he will be able to work towards that direction and he can work on his game in many ways and then improve his game as well. So, I think those are the things that I always keep in mind,” added Rohit Sharma.
