Test Cricket format has always been an interesting format for all cricket enthusiasts with 5 days of play with 2 innings for each team. Let us tell you that there are only 9 bowlers in the history of Test cricket so far who have achieved the feat of taking over 500 wickets in Test format. 

List of bowlers fastest to reach 500 wickets in Test

1- Muttiah Muralitharan 

 

The Sri Lankan right-arm off-break bowler who played 133 Test matches representing Sri Lanka and has taken a total of 800 wickets. He is the highest wicket-taker bowler in the history of cricket in this format and is the only one to achieve the feat of taking 800 wickets. 

To complete 500 wickets in the Test Format, he took 87 matches which is extravagantly impressive for a bowler to achieve. 

2- Ravichandran Ashwin

 

The Indian right-arm off-break bowler who has played 105 matches representing his nation in whites. A total of 536 wickets has been taken by Ashwin and he is still playing the format. He is also a part of the Indian squad for the BGT series against Australia. 

He took a total of 97 matches to achieve the feat of completing 500 wickets in Test format, out of 4 spinners who acheived this feat, he is the fastest one to reach here. 

3- Anil Kumble

 

He is an India leg break-Googly bowler who is known for his immense passion for cricket where he once continued to play a match with a broken jaw and even became a star performer in the same match. 

He has played 132 matches in whites representing India and took a total of 619 wickets in his career span. To complete 500 wickets in Test format, he took 105 matches.

4- Shane Warne

 

The mighty Australian Leg-break Googly bowler who has taken 708 wickets representing his nation in the Test format in 145 matches. He is one of three bowlers who have taken over 700 wickets in this format.

Shane has a record of taking the most wickets in a calendar year, taking a total of 96. He took exactly 108 matches to achieve the feat of 500 test wickets.  

5- Glenn McGrath 

 

The speed gun of Australia who represented Aussies for 124 matches in whites and took 563 wickets in his career span of Test format. He is the 2nd Australian on the list of the top 5 fastest bowlers to reach 500 wickets in this format. 

He managed to take 500 wickets in a total of 110 matches.

6- Nathan Lyon

 

The spin wizard from Australia, arguably the best orthodoxical right-arm off-break bowler, still playing the format. He has played a total of 130 matches in the Test format and has dismissed 532 batsmen with his magical spin.  

 Recently he played against India in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series 1st Test match held in Perth which unfortunately Australia lost by 295 runs. He has taken 10 wicket haul 5 times in this format. 

He managed to complete 500 Test wickets in 123 matches for his nation. 

7- Courtney Walsh

 

The right-arm fast-medium bowler from West Indies who is known for bowling the fastest deliveries consecutively for a longer period of time in the history of cricket. He represented West Indies in 132 matches and took a total of 519 wickets in this format. 

As a fast bowler, he took 129 Test matches to complete 500 wickets in the Test. 

8- James Anderson 

 

The English right-arm medium bowler who is known as the most skillful bowler of the Test format so far, recently he declared retirement and played his last Test match against West Indies in July. 

He has played a total of 188 matches for England and achieved the feat of completing 700 wickets, in his career span he took 704 wickets. He managed to take 500 Test wickets in 123 matches. 

9- Stuart Broad

 

The right-arm fast-medium bowler from England who is infamous for conceding 6 sixes in an over by Yuvraj Singh. He has represented England in 167 matches and took a total of 607 wickets in this format.

He managed to complete 500 wickets in 140 Test matches.
