Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool: €90M Deal Agreed as Reds Line Up More Summer Signings
Arne Slot’s Liverpool rebuild isn’t slowing down any time soon and Hugo Ekitike is the latest name set to walk through the gates at Anfield. After a bit of transfer tennis with Frankfurt, Liverpool have finally agreed a deal for the French striker, and according to Fabrizio Romano, it’s now “here we go” official.
The move comes after Newcastle tried to sneak in with a €70m [£61m] offer, only to get the door politely (and firmly) shut in their face. Liverpool tried with €80m [£69m], also got the same response but unlike Newcastle, they came back with more. Now, it’s done.
Romano dropped the bomb on X:
🚨💣 BREAKING: Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, here we go!
Deal in place for fee over €90m for the French striker to join from Eintracht Frankfurt, potentially reaching €95m.
Six year deal for Ekitike, valid until June 2031; he only wanted Liverpool move.

“BREAKING: Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, here we go! Deal in place for fee over €90m, potentially rising to €95m, for the French striker to join from Eintracht Frankfurt. Six-year deal until June 2031; he only wanted Liverpool move. New striker for Slot.”
Liverpool’s €90M Summer Splash Continues
If you’re keeping track, Liverpool have now spent close to £180m this window. The shopping cart already includes Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Freddie Woodman, and Armin Pecsi, and now, they’re set to add their headline No.9.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who originally broke the news of the breakthrough in talks, also added that “further additions” are expected as Liverpool continue to reload.
He noted:

“The Anfield club have been prioritising a striker this summer and, while sensitivities remain understandably high following the tragic death of Diogo Jota earlier this month, there is an awareness they need to make further additions after bringing in Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez.”
Departures Incoming?
Of course, it’s not just about arrivals. Liverpool’s forward line could see some exits too. Darwin Nunez is on the market, and Luis Diaz has reportedly informed the club he wants out amid serious interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Nothing official yet, but the winds are shifting.
Newcastle’s Ekitike Blow… and the Isak Mystery
Newcastle were one of the first to make a real move for Ekitike, only to watch Liverpool swoop in and seal the deal. On paper, the Magpies might be secretly happy, some believe Liverpool’s signing of Ekitike rules them out of a move for Alexander Isak, Newcastle’s prized No.9.
But things got murky on Saturday when Isak was absent from Newcastle’s 4-0 friendly loss to Celtic, sending the rumour mill into a frenzy.
Manager Eddie Howe addressed it directly:

“It was my decision. I decided to send him home due to the speculation around him. The last thing he wanted was to be sat in the stand watching, that wasn’t fair to him.”
Nothing confirmed, but the smoke is definitely there.
