As per Fabrizio Romano, Luka Modric has purchased a minority stake in the Welsh club. The Swansea ownership changed in November, and Modric will now join the board, although it is unclear how much he has invested, or the stake he has secured. They are currently without a manager, with Alan Sheehan in caretaker charge after Luke Williams was sacked in March. 

The 39-year-old still harbors ambitions of staying at Madrid and would like to sign a new contract, as his expires at the end of the season. However, there are yet to be any indications that the Spanish giants will offer him a fresh deal and reports suggest the Croatian could be allowed to leave on a free transfer.

Swansea are 12th in the Championship and are eight points off the play-offs with four games of the season to go. A late push for promotion is possible, albeit unlikely, and Modric will hope to bring his wealth of experience to the club in order to guide their stated ambition of returning to the Premier League. The Swans face Hull City on Friday before a clash with QPR on Monday. Modric could next be in action when Real face Arsenal in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie, with the Gunners leading 3-0 on aggregate.

In November, Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan’s eight-year spell as the owners of Swansea came to an end when they sold their majority stake to shareholders Andy Coleman, Brett Cravatt and Nigel Morris and businessman Jason Cohen.

Modric has earned 186 caps for Croatia since his senior international debut in 2006, and he will have his eye on making an appearance at the 2026 World Cup while in his 40s if Croatia manages to qualify for the tournament.
