MI vs GT: The Indian Premier League (IPL) season has seen Mumbai Indians claim their second victory during their 2026 campaign when they beat Gujarat Titans at home in a convincing manner.
Shubman Gill, the captain of Gujarat, won the toss and chose to field first on a black soil pitch that is notorious for getting slower over the course of a match, leaving the decision of whether or not to bat first rather questionable.
MI vs GT: Mumbai Posts 199 Runs, Powered by Tilak’s Century
The Mumbai Indians were very quick out of the blocks as they got themselves into trouble with their very first batsman Danish Malewar being out for only two runs and then Quinton de Kock and Suryakumar Yadav both falling cheaply shortly after.
However, Naman Dhir did well to stabilize the innings and was scoring at a good tempo up until he too was out to a bouncer bowled by Prasidh Krishna. After Naman got out, however, Tilak Varma really turned it on and went after the entire Gujarat bowling attack.
Hardik Pandya was also having problems on the pitch as the ball was not coming onto the bat very well for him, but Tilak aggressively smashed 81 runs off only 23 balls after Naman’s wicket to finish his hundred and was the third player to score one in this tournament.
Thanks to Tilak’s hundred, the Mumbai Indians finished with a total of 199 runs in their twenty overs.
Gujarat’s Top 3 Flops
Chasing a target of 200 runs, Gujarat Titans also endured a disastrous start. This time, having learned from past mistakes, Hardik handed the opening over to Jasprit Bumrah, who claimed the wicket of Sai Sudharsan on the very first delivery.
In the following over, Hardik dismissed Jos Buttler. Shubman Gill appeared settled at one end, but in a moment of haste, he played a poor shot and was also dismissed.
Mumbai Registers a Resounding Victory
The Gujarat team’s batting lineup relies heavily on its top three batsmen; if they fail to fire, the entire team tends to crumble. This match proved to be no exception. Following the collapse of the top order, no other Gujarat batsman could make a significant contribution. It turned into a classic case of “come-and-go.”
The Gujarat batsmen kept coming out, attempting to play big shots, only to get dismissed. Scrambling their way through, the Gujarat team somehow managed to reach the 100-run mark, and Mumbai clinched the match by 99 runs.
With this victory, they have leaped from the 10th spot on the points table straight up to the 7th position. For MI, Ashwani Kumar emerged as the most successful bowler; he claimed 4 wickets for 24 runs in his 4 overs.
