MI vs KKR, IPL 2025: Rohit Sharma was chosen as the impact player for Mumbai Indians in their IPL 2025 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Wankhede Stadium on Monday, March 31.
Rohit Sharma Named Impact Player for MI vs KKR Clash
The India captain has played this role in two of MI’s first three matches this season. Since Rohit won’t be on the field when MI bowls first, he won’t be able to share his advice with captain Hardik Pandya during the important match.
Before the toss, Rohit Sharma was seen leading the team huddle, giving an energetic speech as the five-time champions aiming for their first win after a terrible start to the season. Rohit and Mahela Jayawardene stood at the center while the rest of the players listened closely to their former captain.
Mumbai Indians gave Punjab’s left-arm fast bowler Ashwani Kumar his IPL debut on Monday. They also brought back Kerala spinner Vignesh Puthur, who had taken three wickets in his debut match. England batter Will Jacks returned to the team, replacing Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman.
Kolkata Knight Riders brought back Sunil Narine, who missed the last match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati due to illness. He replaced Moeen Ali, who had taken two wickets in that game.
Mumbai Indians have lost both their matches in the IPL 2025 season, while Kolkata recovered with a win in Guwahati after losing their first game against Chennai Super Kings in Chennai.
Hardik Pandya’s Funny Moment at the Toss
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya made a funny mistake at the toss, just like Rohit Sharma once did, when he forgot the name of his team’s debut player.
This happened before the match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the famous Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday, March 31.
Hardik won the toss and chose to bowl first, hoping that the fast bowlers would get some swing from the pitch.
“We are gonna bowl first. Looks a good track. Playing at Wankhede, dew might come or not come. So, we have decided to chase. There are chances that we might get early swing. There will be something in it for the bowlers.”
Hardik Pandya said they are not worrying about their two losses since the IPL is a long tournament, but he wants the team to find their rhythm.
“It’s a long competition. Definitely, we would like to get into the rhythm and get start. We are excited for this game. If we do the right things, we will get the result. We need to play good cricket overall. Calm the nerves down and take the smarter options. If we do that, we will come out on top.”
