Mitchell Starc, Australia’s fast bowler, made a thrilling start to the Ashes by striking with the first ball of the series. Rory Burns, the left-handed opener, was dismissed for a duck by Starc, who delivered a peach of a delivery.
As the opening slid too far across, Starc bowled Burns out round his legs. The left-arm pacer also found swing as he hit the leg stump blockhole to give Australia the game’s first breakthrough.

In the first session of the day, Australia got a strong start, dismissing four English wickets for 59 at lunch. Josh Hazlewood dismissed Dawid Malan (6) cheaply before captain Joe Root nicked one to first slip without opening his account.
Let’s take a look at some of the Twitter reactions to Starc’s dismissal of Rory Burns, as Australia has had an amazing start to the Ashes:
Mitchell Starc has had a difficult year for Australia, with inconsistent performances across formats. The left-arm fast will be looking to build on a strong start on Day 1 of the first Ashes Test in Brisbane, and has done it with this peach of a delivery to dismiss the opener with his first ball.

Joe Root had won the toss and elected to bat at the Gabba earlier in the day. Both Stuart Broad and James Anderson have been ruled out of the first Test, with Mark Wood, Chris Woakes, and Ollie Robinson replacing them in the XI.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins made his first appearance as a Test captain for Australia, replacing scandal ridden Tim Paine.
