In a commanding MO vs NSC showdown in The Hundred, Northern Superchargers comprehensively beat Manchester Originals at Headingley to register second spot in the standings and seal their Eliminator spot against London Spirit.
With Southern Brave already through to The Hundred Final, the victory provides Superchargers with an alternative passage to the final in case rain ruins Saturday’s knockout match.
Superchargers Overwhelm with Bat and Ball
Having chosen to bowl first, the Superchargers presented a clinical bowling display. While Beth Mooney (20 off 13) gave a speedy begin, Manchester Originals were reduced to only 94 all out with some controlled bowling.
Bowlers Steal the Show in MO vs NSC Clash
England’s World Cup omission of Kate Cross made a resounding declaration, allowing only 6 runs in 15 balls. Annabel Sutherland excelled again with 3 for 15, demonstrating her class with the ball. Nicola Carey was also impressive, taking 2 for 13 off her full allocation of deliveries. Alice Monaghan was the lone highlight with the bat for the Originals, making a feisty 26 from 17, with the only two sixes of the innings.
Originals Fall Short in Must-Win Game
Manchester Originals went into the MO vs NSC contest with intricate run-rate requirements: they had to bowl out the Superchargers for 38 or limit them under 35 in order to remain alive in the playoff contention. Their attempts, though, were woefully inadequate as Northern Superchargers completed the target in commanding fashion.
Sutherland and Litchfield Set the Tone
Alice Davidson-Richards provided the chase an early boost with a rapid 30 from 18 before being dismissed by Lauren Filer. Annabel Sutherland (30 from 17)* extended her all-round excellence, dispatching big shots, a four and a six down the ground.
Phoebe Litchfield (26 from 20)* played a clever supporting role, rotating strike and playing gaps with accuracy. The Superchargers passed the target with eight wickets spare and 35 balls remaining, claiming a one-sided victory and second position in the table.
Annabel Sutherland Named Meerkat Match Hero
In response to her excellent all-round performance, Annabel Sutherland was awarded the Meerkat Match Hero.
“It’s amazing. Hopefully we can take that into the next two matches. We enjoy it here at Headingley, and I suppose that transpires in terms of the results,” said Sutherland.
“We genuinely just have such a good time out there. It’s a wonderful competition, really enjoyable.”
What’s Next in The Hundred?
With this outcome of MO vs NSC, the Northern Superchargers have secured a spot in the Eliminator against London Spirit. If the Eliminator is interrupted by rain, the Superchargers will directly advance to The Hundred Final on Sunday to play Southern Brave, thanks to being runners-up in the table.
This MO v NSC match might be the one that can determine the course of The Hundred 2025. With their performance at the peak level at the optimal time, Northern Superchargers appear to be serious title contenders particularly when one has players such as Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield in outstanding form.
