A Career Spanning International Cricket and IPL Glory
The 37-year-old Mohit Sharma steps away, having represented India in 34 international matches, of which 26 were ODIs and eight T20Is. His IPL career was even more substantial, having made 120 appearances across multiple teams.
An emotional message was shared by Mohit on his Instagram handle, thanking everyone who helped him go from Haryana cricket to the Indian dressing room.
Heartfelt Farewell Message
Mohit Sharma, in his retirement note, extended his thankful words:
He thanked the Haryana Cricket Association for being his career’s backbone and paid special tribute to Anirudh Chaudhry, acknowledging his mentorship and unstinting support through his rise.
The all-rounder Mohit, who played in three IPL finals, mentioned that though he never lifted the coveted trophy, the journey was “nothing short of a blessing.”
International Achievements: From 2013 Debut to World Cup Appearance
Mohit made his India debut in 2013 and has picked up 31 ODI wickets and six T20I wickets. He was part of India’s squad in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, where he contributed as a reliable seam option.
Under MS Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings, Mohit grew into a reliable death-overs specialist-known for accuracy and variations that could trouble the best batters.
Consistent Performer Across Four IPL Franchises
Over the years, Mohit Sharma played for several major IPL franchises:
Chennai Super Kings
Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings)
Delhi Capitals
Gujarat Titans
His standout season came in 2023, when he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker, only behind teammate Mohammed Shami, during Gujarat Titans’ impressive campaign.
Impressive Legacy of Domestic and IPL Cricket
Mohit played in each IPL season from 2013 to 2025, apart from 2021 and 2022, finishing with 134 wickets from 120 matches. He also had a rewarding first-class stint in domestic cricket for Haryana, picking up 127 wickets from 44 matches between 2011 and 2018.
