Naomi Osaka Stuns In Blingy Red Outfit At US Open

3 Min Read

Naomi Osaka launched her US Open title bid on Tuesday night in Flushing Meadows. The former champion overcame Belgium’s Greet Minnen. She took the first set 6-3 and maintained her composure in the second, even after a brief hiccup in momentum. With a straight-sets win secured, she advanced to the second round.

However, it was Osaka’s dazzling entrance and her blingy red outfit that caught the attention of tennis fans. The Japanese has never been one to shy away from making a statement-on or off the court. And her appearance at the Louis Armstrong Stadium on Tuesday night will be a one to remember in tennis history.

Naomi Osaka’s Fashion Statement

The four-time Grand Slam champion delivered a dazzling display of confidence and creativity- both sartorial and sporting.

Osaka arrived for her first-round match in a shimmering, monochrome red Nike look that turned heads. Her entrance ensemble- a sequined, zip-up cropped jacket paired with a bubble-hem skirt- sparkled with every step, reflecting the bright energy of New York’s biggest tennis stage.

She completed the walk-on look with a sleek black visor, ruby-red custom Beats headphones, and a trending plush accessory: a red Labubu figurine decked out in jewels and cheekily named “Billie Jean Bling”, a playful nod to tennis icon Billie Jean King

The 27-year-old spotted a braided hair  bedecked with red rose embellishments, created exclusively for the tournament. The shoes- bright red with a black swoosh and rose print accents- featured her personalized “NO” logo on the insole.

“I designed this outfit a while ago,” Osaka said during her post-match press conference. “I just thought it would be really fun to do a New York night match look. I’m glad it worked out, because this was a really fun one to play in.”

Once the match began, Osaka shed her warm-up jacket to reveal a glittering sleeveless top and flared skirt in the same fiery hue.

Naomi Osaka is bidding for her third US Open title, having previously won in  2018 and 2020. New York has been her most successful Grand Slam venue with a 79% win rate. Her only first-round exit came in 2016, during her rookie season.

In the next round, Osaka will face American Hailey Baptiste.
