Natalie Sciver was born in Tokyo and began playing cricket throughout her childhood in the Netherlands, despite the fact that it was initially her third-choice sport after football and tennis. She is a true all-rounder who was selected for England’s 2013 series against Pakistan after putting on strong performances for Surrey in the County Championship in the 2012 and 2013 seasons. That summer, she made an immediate impact on the international stage by taking 3 for 28 against Pakistan and winning Player of the Match in just her second ODI.
She was the first English cricketer, male or female, to capture a T20I hat-trick in a match against New Zealand in October 2013 thanks to her skiddy, accurate medium-pacer bowling. She also demonstrated the same ability earlier this year during the Perth Test, sharing a 58-run partnership with Arran Brindle to save England’s first innings, falling just one short of a maiden Test half-century. During the 2013 Ashes series, she established herself as a key middle-order anchor for England, averaging 100.00 with the bat.
Although she only bowled one over during the Test, she concluded the 2015 Women’s Ashes with nine wickets at an average of 17.55, suggesting that her bowling has possibly not been utilized to its full potential at the international level. She did not bowl in seven of England’s eight games during their early 2015 tour of New Zealand. In the series, she hit 175 runs as well.
She developed her reputation as a strong batter by becoming the first female player to knock a six in the Women’s Big Bash League after being signed by Melbourne Stars for the league’s first season. Her ankle injury forced her to miss England’s ODI series in South Africa at the beginning of 2016, but she was able to rejoin the team for the T20 portion of the tour and participated in every game of their World Twenty20 campaign. She continued to be a key player in their series victory over Pakistan that summer, smashing the previous mark for the quickest half-century in ODIs by scoring 80 off 33 balls in the second ODI at Worcester.
