Nepal Kabaddi League Season 2 To Begin In June With Six Teams

The Nepal Kabaddi League is set to return for its second edition. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 5 to 19.

The competition will be staged at the NSC Covered Hall, Tripureshwor, as confirmed NKL Astronics Management Chief Amit Kumar Begani.

A total of six teams from the inaugural season will compete in Season 2. They are as follows:

  • Biratnagar Bandits,
  • Janakpur Knights
  • Kathmandu Mavericks
  • Pokhara Lakers
  • Himalayan Raiders
  • Dhangadhi Wildcats

Over 512 Nepali kabaddi players and more than 100 international players from 15 countries, including India, Iran, Korea, and Poland, have registered for the upcoming season. Experienced players from India’s Pro Kabaddi League are also expected to feature.

In the Nepal Kabaddi League Season 2 draft,  each team will be allowed to retain and release players ahead of the next season and build their remaining squad during the draft. All franchises are allowed to sign upto three overseas players.

Astronics Management CEO Vikas Agrawal announced that the league will operate on a budget of Rs 100 million.

Nepal Kabaddi League: Format

Each team will play five league-stage matches in a round-robin format. The top four teams at the end of the league stage will qualify for the next round of the competition. The playoffs consist of four matches: Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Final.

Kantipur Max TV HD has been signed as the official broadcast partner, and all matches of Season 2 will be telecast live.

What happened in Nepal Kabaddi League Season 1?

Table-toppers Janakpur Knights defeated the Kathmandu Mavericks 43-41 in a tight encounter to lift the inaugural Nepal Kabaddi League title.

Ghanshyam Roka Magar was the best performer last season with a total of 174 points. He also emerged as the Best Raider of the Tournament with 125 raid points, while Tanongsak Srihera bagged the Best Defender of the Tournament award with 35 tackle points.

The previous edition saw participation from international players from Bangladesh, Kenya, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.
