The Atlanta Falcons have seen a number of players achieve historical feats, including a handful on their march to the Super Bowl last year. Since moving to the NFC South in 2002 due to NFL reorganization, the team has played 15 seasons and is seeking its fifth division title.

The league MVP, Matt Ryan, has a chance to become only the second player in NFL history to throw for 4,000 yards in six straight seasons. Drew Brees of the New Orleans Saints was the first to do it. Ryan’s 4,944 throwing yards from last season came partly from his incredible game against the Carolina Panthers. See where that and other performances rank in Falcon’s annals:

Rushing: Michael Turner, 220 (September 7, 2008)

In the 2008 opening game against the Detroit Lions, the Falcons’ running back set a new franchise record for rushing yards. His 66-yard touchdown run came in the first quarter of a 34-21 victory. (Matt Ryan debuted in this match.)

Passing: Matt Ryan, 503 (October 2, 2016)

In their Sunday afternoon showdown against the Carolina Panthers in the Georgia Dome, the Falcons established a pair of new franchise marks. As the Vikings won 48-33, Ryan threw for 28 and caught nine passes.

Passing touchdowns: Wade Wilson, 5 (December 13, 1992) and Matt Ryan, 5 (September 23, 2018)

On that chilly day in December 1992 at Tampa Stadium, Wilson threw touchdown passes to four receivers: Deion Sanders, Michael Haynes, Mike Pritchard, and Andre Rison.

Receptions: William Andrews, 15 (September 15, 1981)

At Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium on November 15, 1981, the Falcons’ running back hauled in 15 receptions from Steve Bartkowski for a total of 124 yards, the longest of which was for 20 yards. The game was against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Receiving yards: Julio Jones, 300 (October 2, 2016)

Jones set the record for most receptions in a single game with 12 on October 12, 2016, the same day Matt Ryan set a record by throwing 503 yards. The longest touchdown run was a 75-yarder scored in the third quarter.

Interceptions: Several Falcons, 2, most recently Damontae Kazee, 2 (December 8, 2019)

Alford was the latest Falcon to make two interceptions in a game, and he did so on October 12, 2016, against the Carolina Panthers in the Georgia Dome. Other Falcons have accomplished this feat as well. A throw that was intended for Greg Olsen but was intercepted by Alford and returned 30 yards for a touchdown by Derek Anderson.

Field goals: Norm Johnson, 6 (November 13, 1994)

In a tight game against the New Orleans Saints on November 13, 1994, in the Louisiana Superdome, Johnson’s kicks of 23, 33, 33, 31, 48, and 30 yards provided the majority of the Falcons’ scoring. The game was played in Louisiana. Johnsons kicked all three of their most recent field goals in the fourth quarter. The Falcons suffered a defeat by the score of 33-32. (on a field goal). Coincidentally, the kicker for the opposing team was Morten Andersen, who would later sign with the Falcons for the following season.

Total touchdowns: T. J. Duckett, 4 (December 12, 2004) and Michael Turner, 4 (November 23, 2008)

At the Georgia Dome on December 12, 2004, the Falcons’ running back scored touchdowns on 28, 4, and 1 yards while playing against the Los Angeles Raiders. Michael Turner accomplished the same thing in the game against the Panthers on November 23, 2008.

Sacks: Adrian Clayborn, 6 (November 13, 2017)

Adrian Clayborn holds the Falcon’s record for most sacks in a game. Clayborn set an NFL record with six sacks in a game against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 10. The Falcons’ 27-7 victory over the Cowboys was highlighted by his near-record seven pockets, one short of the NFL record held by Derrick Thomas. A few days after, Clayborn was honored as the NFC’s Defensive Player of the Week. That single day accounted for over 20% of his whole career sack. So far, he has had 36.5 sacks throughout his career.
