New Orleans Saints, one of the NFL’s 1966 expansion teams, play in the NFC South. Like other expansion teams, the Saints lost 11 of their 14 games in their NFL debut. However, it took the team 20 years to have their first good season, highlighting their futility. Between 1987 and 1992, the Saints reached the playoffs four times. Drew Brees, who revitalized the Saints, is their most significant player. After a long hiatus, the Saints returned to the NFL Playoffs. Hurricane Katrina’s damage caused the Saints to play all their home games outside New Orleans in 2005, making their 2006 postseason return notable. In 2006, Sean Payton’s Saints went 10-6 at the Superdome. Since 2017, the New Orleans Saints have appeared in four of five postseasons and are valued at $2.08 billion, the New Orleans Saints.
History:
The New Orleans Saints are consistently seen as one of the best football teams in their league. However, this was only sometimes the case in the past. It took them twenty years after they initially joined the league before they finally had their first winning season. Things, however, took a dramatic turn for the better in the early 2000s. Even though the team has never won more than one Super Bowl, it is consistently running for the title, demonstrating to other franchises that there is always a chance that things can be turned around.
However, the Saints have, for the most part, maintained their traditional look ever since they entered the league. Since 1966, their primary uniform design has consisted of black home jerseys, gold leggings, and a gold helmet adorned with a fleur-de-lis logo. This style has remained mostly unchanged. The team stopped wearing gold pants in 1975 and used white ones instead. This change lasted until 1985. However, in 1986 they returned to their more classic appearance and have remained within it.
About Uniform:
In 1967, owner John Mecom’s oil company inspired the New Orleans Saints Black and Gold colours. Gold helmets with Gray facemasks and black Fleurde-Lis emblems on each side were to be used. The home jerseys were black with TV numbers on the shoulder and white-trimmed gold numerals. The white away jerseys had TV numbers on the shoulders, gold numerals with black trim, and black and gold sleeve stripes. They striped gold pants. The socks were white with gold and black stripes. In 1986, From 1986 to 1995, the sleeves of the jerseys and the sides of the pants had a logo with a fleur-de-lis inside an outline of the state of Louisiana (with a star showing where New Orleans is on the state’s outline).
The team logo has replaced the former uniform stripes. In 1996, from 1996 to 1998, the Saints wore white jerseys with gold numbers. At that time, the numbers on the black jerseys were also made of gold. The logo was changed to a fleur-de-lis and put on the sleeves and sides of the pants.
In 2001, they wore white jerseys for the first six home games. During that same year, they wore black pants with white and black jerseys. They were the first NFL team to wear uniforms that were all black. In 2002, the Saints sported various uniforms, including white pants with white jerseys, gold pants with black jerseys, an alternate gold jersey, and a throwback uniform reminiscent of the team’s heyday in the 1960s and ’70s. The throwback uniform had grey facemasks and a gold helmet with a larger fleur-de-lis darker shade of gold. In 2006, the Saints wore a patch on their uniforms to celebrate their return to Louisiana. The patch had an outline of the state with a fleur-de-lis on it, just like the logo from the 1980s.
In 2016, the NFL’s Colour Rush initiative debuted in 2016, and the Saints’ uniforms are a combination of past versions. White jersey tops had classic gold numerals with black trim and gold and black sleeve stripes, a reference to the team’s late 1960s jerseys. White pants (influenced by 1975–85) and all-white socks completed the uniforms.

In 2019, a new iteration of the traditional all-white Colour Rush outfit made its debut. The Saints wore their usual white uniforms, including white pants devoid of any striping (an inverse of their black pants). A black helmet adorned with a gold fleur-de-lis and a gold triangular design featuring miniature Saints logos was introduced as the team’s primary headgear in 2022.
