Nitish Kumar Reddy made his Test debut during India’s recent tour of Australia and impressed with his batting in nearly every match. However, it was during the Boxing Day Test that he truly shined, scoring a brilliant century in the first innings, which brought his father, watching in the crowd, to tears of joy.

A video that appeared on social media Thursday showed Reddy remembering how Kohli first asked Sarfaraz Khan for his shoe size and then asked him the same question. The young player said he really wanted Kohli’s shoes and explained why.

“If you saw my 100, that’s not my shoes, that’s Virat bhai’s shoes. He asked Sarfaraz first, ‘Sarfoo, tera size kya hai?’ Toh Sarfoo said 9 or something. So, he asked me ‘Nitish, what’s your size?’ I was like oh my god, I have to guess this correctly. Even if it’s not my size, I want to take that shoe so badly. So, I said, 10. He’s like, “Oh okay, take these shoes, if you want, you can take’. I was like ‘I want to take’. The next match, I wore that shoe and scored a 100.”

The Andhra Pradesh-born cricketer is now preparing for the IPL, where he will play for SunRisers Hyderabad after being retained by the franchise before the auction. The 21-year-old scored 303 runs in 13 matches in IPL 2024, with a strike rate of 142.92, and also took three wickets.

His impressive performance for SunRisers earned him a spot in the India squad for their T20I series against Bangladesh at home. SunRisers will kick off their IPL campaign against Rajasthan Royals on March 23 in Hyderabad.
