Novak Djokovic defeated Grigor Dimitrov to reach the final of the Miami Open 2025 in men’s singles. This is his first appearance in the final of the tournament since 2016. 

World number five Djokovic, 37, championed five straight games to win the first set. The Bulgarian showed signs of struggling at the start of the second set and the 24-time Grand Slam champion took advantage to go achieve 6-2 6-3.

The six-time Miami Open champion only made five unforced errors to his opponent’s 32.

“Ever since I won my 99th [title], which was the Olympic Games in Paris, I’ve been playing with the prospect of winning the special 100 titles,” said Djokovic.

“I’ve been trying to find that necessary and much-needed level of tennis that will put me in a position to fight for a trophy, a big trophy.

“That’s what I’ve been doing this week, to be honest. I’ve been very happy with the way I prepared for the tournament, the way I’ve been playing. I haven’t dropped a set.

“It’s a great opportunity. Let’s see what happens in two days.”

The Serb, the fourth seed at the tournament, became the oldest ATP Masters 1000 finalist ever and also the oldest semi-finalist at Miami Open  at 37 years and 10 months old.

He has a total of six Miami Open titles in men’s singles, a record he jointly holds with former American tennis ace Andre Agassi. The Serb will now be eyeing a record seventh title in the 2025 edition.

A win in the final on Sunday, March 30 will also mark Djokovic’s 100th title as a professional. He is just one title short from an elusive century of tour-level crowns.  He will join the elite list of Jimmy Connors (109) and Roger Federer (103) as the only players to hit the 100 milestone.

He will try to clinch a record-extending 41st title at this level on Sunday.

Djokovic will face unseeded Czech player Jakub Mensik in Sunday’s final following his shock 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) victory over American Taylor Fritz in Friday’s second semi-final.

Notably, Djokovic has struggled with form after his success in the Olympics 2024, He was ruled out of the Australian Open semi-finals due to an injury, and upon his return, Djokovic lost his first match at Indian Wells to Botic van de Zandschulp.
