NSC vs LS: Davina Perrin wrote history with a breathtaking unbeaten century as Northern Superchargers (NSC) charged into the final of The Women’s Hundred with a dominant 42-run win over London Spirit (LS) at The Oval on Saturday. Perrin’s innings not only took her team to the title decider but also created several records in the tournament.
Davina Perrin’s Unbeaten 101: A Record Knock
Perrin hammered 101 from just 43 balls*, only the second player to reach a century in The Women’s Hundred. Her 15-boundary, 5-six assault totally took apart the London Spirit bowling unit.
Opening the innings, Perrin didn’t waste any time, dismantling Kate Coppack and Eva Gray in the power play. While her partner, Davidson Richards, toiled for fluency (15 off 18 balls), Perrin’s command assured an opening partnership of 105 in 49 balls.
Once Richards departed, Perrin continued to increase the scoring rate. She set up Phoebe Litchfield wonderfully as she scored 35 runs following a somewhat slow start. Though they both went in quick succession later, some late fire came from Nicola Carey to help the Superchargers to a record total.
Northern Superchargers Set The Highest Total in The Women’s Hundred
Due to Perrin’s heroics, Northern Superchargers scored 214/5 in 100 balls — the team’s highest-ever score in the tournament’s history. Eva Gray was the one who was hit with the biggest onslaught, allowing 42 runs in her three sets of five balls, while Spirit bowlers were at a loss to find any solutions.
London Spirit Collapse Early in the Chase
Pursuing 215 for the final spot, London Spirit went through a woeful beginning, stumbling to 12/3 within the initial 12 balls. Regardless of the initial damage, Cordelia Griffith and Charli Knott tried a revival as they came up with a stunning 63-run stand from merely 24 balls, giving hope for a comeback.
But Superchargers’ bowlers kept taking wickets at frequent intervals. Though Georgia Redmayne battled hard with an unbeaten 50 off 30 balls, the absence of support from the other end ensured that the chase failed to take off. Spirit eventually reached 172/9 in 100 balls, short by 42 runs.
Bowling Heroes for Northern Superchargers
The Superchargers’ bowling along with Perrin’s brilliance with the bat. Grace Ballinger was brilliant, taking 3/22, while Annabel Sutherland added 3/40 to keep Spirit batters from ever coming into rhythm.
