Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rules out Man Utd move for Sergio Aguero

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not expect Sergio Aguero to follow in the footsteps of Peter Schmeichel, Andrew Cole and Carlos Tevez by representing both Manchester City and Manchester United; Aguero is a free agent this summer.

Barcelona are thought to be the favourites to land him, with Chelsea reportedly holding an interest in signing the Argentina international, but Solskjaer confirmed there is no chance that United will be attempting to bring him to Old Trafford.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano recently denied suggestionsthat Man United had already approached the Argentina international over a move to Old Trafford.

“But now it is official that he is leaving the Etihad as a free agent this summer, if he stays in the Premier League I would love to see Aguero rock the boat by moving across town and signing for Manchester United. I don’t honestly believe United will seize the day and make it happen – but why shouldn’t it happen?”

Solskjaer insists he values loyalty very highly and the thought of signing City’s record goalscorer for their bitter rivals is of no interest to him.

“When I played for Man Utd, if a rival club would try to sign me and I’d gone to a rival club, where’s the loyalty?” Solskjaer said.

“Of course, loyalty is one of the values I rank highly. So I wouldn’t expect any player who had played for a club for 10 years to want to go to a local rival.”

Solskjaer’s former team-mate Peter Schmeichel controversially joined Manchester City in 2002, having left United three years earlier to join Sporting Lisbon.

Within months of signing, he helped City win their first derby against United in 13 years.

Solskjaer scored a consolation in a 3-1 defeat. Carlos Tevez also joined City in 2010, winning his third Premier League title at the Etihad having picked up two during his time at Old Trafford.
