Pakistan, India To Clash In West Asia Baseball Cup Amid Border Tensions

India and Pakistan are yet again set to renew their well-known rivalry in the field of sports. This time the arch-rivals will lock horns in the basketball field. 

The hostile neighbours will clash in the semi-final of the West Asia Baseball Cup 2025 on Tuesday. The tournament is currently being staged in Karaj, Iran.

The event, organized by the Baseball Federation of Asia, which is the continental branch of the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC) and operates under the International Olympic Committee (IOC), features top national teams from across West Asia.

West Asia Baseball Cup 2025 Semi-Final: Pakistan vs India 

Pakistan, the defending champions, stormed into the semifinals with a consistent performance, topping Group B with a perfect record.

They opened their campaign with a 10-6 win over Bangladesh. In their second match in the West Asia Baseball Cup, Pakistan produced a dominant display against hosts Iran, cruising to a 14-0 win.

India, meanwhile, booked their place in the West Asia Baseball Cup semifinal after finishing second in Group A.

They started their campaign with a 1-6 loss to Palestine, but made strong comeback with consecutive victories over Sri Lanka (3-2) and Afghanistan (12-4) to stay in the hunt for the title.

The second semifinal will feature Palestine against Iran.

India is ranked 69 in the world, and Pakistan, at No. 38, is the highest-ranked team in the competition.

The 2025 West Asia Baseball Cup is the 16th edition of the tournament, scheduled to be held in Karaj, Iran from May 1–8, 2025.

Teams from Iran, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Palestine were competing for regional glory and a spot in the Asian Baseball Championship in China this November.

The India-Pakistan match comes heated diplomatic hostility between the two countries following the Pahalgam terror attack. Both the countries had cut-off all ties including that of sports. This upcoming clash is set to gather attention from all quarters.
