The Paralympics 2020 tournament is underway. The competition began on 24th August and will continue till 5th September 2021.
Indian Contingent has 54 players competing in different sports. A huge number of participants will be representing India on a large scale at the Paralympics 2020 this year.
With that, presently, there are already many medals won by the Indian players. Some of which included Avani Lekhara’s gold medal that scripted history.
The competing events are underway. Amidst this, it is noted that the Paralympics Discus thrower Vinod Kumar has unfortunately lost his bronze medal.
In the F52 category, Vinod Kumar was found to be ineligible in his disability classification assessment. The panel was unable to allocate the athlete Vinod Kumar from NPC India with a sports class and the athlete was designated as Classification not Completed (CNC),” said in a statement.
This decision was announced after many competitors challenged Vinod Kumar’s result.
Vinod Kumar produced his best throw of 19.91m to finish third behind Piotr Kosewicz (20.02m) of Poland and Velimir Sandor (19.98m) of Croatia on Sunday. Then it can be noted that the Discus Thrower’s result is considered void.
The para-athletes are divided based on their disability. This classification will allow athletes of similar levels of disability to compete. Vinod’s classification was done on August 22.
