Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the Paralympics 2020 took place from 24th August till 5th September. Now that the games have ended, Indian Contingent got a kitty of 19 medals!
The Indian Contingent got 54- members to participate in the tournament. One of the largest Indian Contingent representing the nation over the past few years.
However, there is more to the para-leap of a nation that had a total of just 12 medals before Tokyo
The Government spent almost Rs 8.2 crore on para-sports from 2018-19 to 2021-22, the Sports Minister told Lok Sabha this year.
It is to be noted that this year amidst all the preparation, team India was given a push by government authorities, private players, and exclusive arenas and incentives.
This year has seen so much more participation and support from authorities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulates all the members. He was also in contact with all the players.
Now the government is giving a push for better training camps, facilities, and services.

Silver medallist Discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya said, “Apart from facilities, governments now see para-athletes’ achievements the same way as normal athletes in terms of cash awards and jobs. This has added to our confidence.”
With this, the Paralympics 2020 Games ended on 5th September.
