Paralympics 2020: Pramod Bhagat emerge victorious in his 2nd Men’s Singles SL3 match, advances to semi-finals

The reigning world champion India’s – Pramod Bhagat defeated Ukraine’s Oleksandr Chyrkov in two straight games in Men’s Singles SL3 on Thursday

For the Indian Badminton fans, there is a reason to be excited as World No.1 and top-seeded Pramod Bhagat reaches the semi-finals of the Men’s Singles SL3 category at 2020 Tokyo Summer Paralympics. Pramod Bhagat having been placed in Group A topped his group after two wins and booked a spot in the semi-finals.

In his second match, against Ukraine’s Oleksandr Chyrkov, the 33-year-old Indian shuttler won with a 21-12, 21-9 scoreline in  26 minutes at Court 3 of the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo.  The 25-year-old from Ukraine is ranked 6th in the world, he couldn’t gain control of the match as it was dominated by Pramod Bhagat.

Thus, for India’s ace player Pramod a Paralympic medal is just one win away. Yesterday, Bhagat won his Group A opener against fellow Indian Manoj Sarkar as the match went into a decider. However, for the Ukrainian, this was his first Men’s Singles SL3 match in Tokyo, and will next play against Manoj Sarkar tomorrow.

The knockout round will likely be played tomorrow, however as of now Pramod’s opponent for the semi-final clash is unknown.
