2nd Seed Krishna Nagar wins his Men’s Singles SH6 opening match at Tokyo Paralympics

The 22-year-old Krishna Nagar defeated Didin Taresoh from Malaysia in two straight games in the group stage match of Men’s Singles SH6 category

The second day of the Para-Badminton competitions began at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. As the Men’s Singles SH6 Group Play Stage was held for Group B – where the first match was played between World No. 2 Krishna Nagar from India and World No.7 Didin Taresoh.

Born in Jaipur, Rajasthan the left-handed Indian shuttler won his opening match with ease 22-20, 21-10 against the Malaysian – twice his age. The 46-year-old gave a tough fight in the 1st game but it went in vain as Krishna Nagar won the game taking a 1-0 lead. The final game was dominated by the Indian, he emerged as the winner of the match. As a result, the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics campaign began with a win for Krishna Nagar.

The SH6 classification in Para-Badminton is for athletes who have achondroplasia and are short in stature. The format of the SH6 category is that there are a total of six players divided into 2 groups – Group A and Group B with the top two athletes from each group advancing to the knockout rounds i.e. the Semi-finals.

Group B consists of three players; Krishna Nagar, Didin Taresoh, and World No. 4 Vitor Tavares from Brazil. The Indian will play his 2nd match tomorrow against Vitor Tavares.
